Basic Information
Chemical name: propylene glycol carbonate, propylene carbonate
In fact, the Chinese standard name for Propylene Carbonate is not “propylene carbonate”, but we know from the structure that there is no unsaturated bond of “alkene” (only the carbonoxy double bond of the ester), and it is cyclic! This is because the term “propylene” means both “propylene” and “propylidene”, and the term “propylene carbonate” does not reflect this structure.
The reason for this is that the word “propylene” means both “propylene” and “propylidene”, and the term “propylene carbonate” does not reflect this structure. “I’m think that the Chinese version of Propylene Carbonate is based on the meaning of the word without understanding its structure, but it has gradually become a mainstream term on the Internet.
Normally speaking, Propylene Carbonate can be translated as propylidene carbonate, propylene glycol carbonate and propylene glycol carbonate. The latter 1,2-propanediol carbonate, or 4-methyl-2,5-dioxolan-1-one, etc.
